The Five Ws of a Wedding Planner

Welcome back to the blog! I’ve been busy jetting all over France shooting gorgeous editorials that I can’t wait to share with you, as well as making some seriously beautiful love stories happen. It’s been a very busy wedding season after what has been a turbulent year or two, and I couldn’t be happier to working with my wonderful couples once again. Today I’m telling you everything you need to know about hiring a wedding planner – including the five ‘Ws’. Who, what, when, where and why. Grab a cosy cup of coffee and get scrolling!

WHO

The industry is graced with plenty of amazing wedding planners to choose from and you’re guaranteed to find the right fit for you and your wedding day. Many have corporate backgrounds, while others have worked in organisational roles or come from creative jobs! I believe that the chapters that lead someone to becoming a wedding planner influences their style and brand. You can find out a little more about me and my background here! If you’re wondering which wedding planner is meant for you, here are a few things to consider…

  • Do you feel inspired by their portfolio and social media?
  • Does their website resonate with you?
  • Do their values align with yours?
  • Do they have glowing reviews?
  • Do you enjoy chatting to them and feel comfortable with them?

You must instil complete and utter trust in your wedding planner, relying on them to orchestrate one of the most important events in your life! It’s important you tick off all the above on your potential wedding planner checklist before you go any further.

WHAT

Long story short; a wedding planner is a professional who will provide support and management with the design and execution of your wedding day, including the logistical, financial, organisational, communicative and styling elements. However, I have over a decade of experience under my belt and I’d also say that a wedding planner is…

  • A friend, mentor and expert.
  • Someone who alleviates the stress of wedding planning
  • Someone who takes your dreams and makes them a reality
  • A memory maker and experience creator
  • A professional who will work as many hours, days, weeks and months needed to make your day magical

Wedding planners often offer a variety of services, however as your devoted destination wedding planner I give my couples my complete attention and commitment, offering only the full management package. A wedding coordinator and wedding planner offer two very different services – a coordinator will generally provide help and support in the six weeks leading up to the big day, tying any loose ends and managing the day itself.

WHY

Couples usually seek to hire a wedding planner because of time constraints, language barriers (if they are planning an overseas wedding) or simply because they feel a professional will do a more efficient job. However, one thing will remain the same! A wedding planner will help you…

  • Save TIME and stress
  • Recommend the industry’s most sought-after suppliers
  • Create the day of your dreams within your budget
  • Manage the day itself, setting up, packing up, liaising with suppliers, managing your timeline etc
  • Plan a wedding that is everything you’ve always wanted

WHEN

Okay, so now you’re clued up on who a wedding planner is, what they do and why you need one in your life, it’s time to think about WHEN you’d actually hire one. Well, the simple answer is… As soon as you start thinking you might need one! Wedding planners tend to take on up to 10 weddings a year and can get booked up extremely quickly – especially in the summer! So, there is no time like the present. Drop me a quick message if you’d like to enquire about my availability for weddings in 2022/23 – the diary is officially OPEN!

WHERE

Lastly (and by no means least), it’s time to think about where you’d find the right planner for you. The majority of my couples find me through recommendations, wedding blogs, social media and simply through guests who have attended weddings that I plan. Instagram is a great way to go behind the scenes and really delve beyond the surface of a wedding planner – you can find me at @byjoanneweddings on the ‘gram, so hit follow and follow my planning adventures to get a taste of my approach and style.

I hope you found this feature useful – if you do have any questions at all I welcome you to get in touch! Let’s talk weddings!
